John Bertholon

EVP of Programming

John is an award winning producer with a consistent record of success in production and content development, encompassing a diverse career. With almost 20 years in the business and direct oversight of nearly 800 hours of programming, he is a team builder with applied development, creative, technical, organizational and leadership skills across a wide range of TV genres.

John’s career path was a little unorthodox. A starving actor for years, he tripped over an opportunity to launch a production company on a whim in 1997 and through trial by fire created Café Digital - a weekly hosted (yup, he hosted) documentary/variety series on the cultural impact of digital technology. He served as the show’s executive producer and went on to a successful launch. The program aired across the US in broadcast syndication (1998 – 2001) before securing second window distribution deals on Discovery Science Channel and Discovery Channel - Asia & Latin America.

By 2005, John was show running for UK-based Lion Television working on series such as Discovery’s hits, It Takes a Thief, Cash Cab and Wasted! for Planet Green. Prior to that, he served as executive producer for the edgy reality format Nice Package for Oxygen in 2004, and also served as supervising producer for the hit syndicated FOX series, Ambush Makeover and Design Invasion.

A loyal Leopard since 2008, John is overseeing current series, including House Hunters International, House Hunters International Renovation and Off the Grid Living for HGTV. Prior to his role as EVP Programming he served as Executive Producer and Co-executive Producer on multiple series for A&E, HGTV and Travel Channel.
